Born from a desire to challenge conventional notions of utility and aesthetics, my initial point of inquiry with this piece was to explore the boundaries between art, design, and craft. This endeavor led me on a journey through material exploration, aesthetic inquiry, and process, culminating in the creation of these bent laminate light objects.

Embracing experimentation, I sought to infuse color into these objects. After unsuccessful attempts with traditional painting methods, it occurred to me that using colored light bulbs may provide the desired effect. The use of colored bulbs introduced a mesmerizing effect, activating the space around the objects. This immersed the viewer and demanded attention. Which led me to an additional line of inquiry.

As an objects maker with a background in product design, I often contemplate the role objects play in our lives, and how me might create useful objects that challenge widely pervasive passive relationship found in consumerist society.

Each Light Object blurs the line between utility and artistry. While they serve as lamps, their primary-colored bulbs create ambiance rather than practical illumination. Moreover, their distinctive forms and spatial demands compel users to actively collaborate with their environment, fostering a dynamic interaction that transcends mere utility. Ultimately, these experiments in form, color, and function aspire to forge deeper connections between individuals and the objects they live with.
